POSITIVE

  • Bluetooth wireless connectivity to both Android and Apple devices.

  • Set adjustable alarms whenever you get a reading outside your boundaries.

  • Readings will automatically be logged in the mobile app.

  • Bright LED display.

NEGATIVE

  • The app requires a bit of a learning curve.

  • Not particularly lightweight.

Overview:

The Oxiline Pulse MD Pro is a highly-rated model for a good reason. Recommended by doctors, our testers ranked it second on our list for a few key reasons, starting with its standout feature: built-in VTEC technology.

Because of it, you get constantly reliable readings that are automatically logged in the mobile app, which works great if you want to backtrack on your medical history.

The preset alarms are a great idea to notify you ASAP whenever you get an unusual reading. While the mobile app is pretty straightforward, it's good to note that it is required to operate this device, so if you're not looking for an oximeter that's too fancy, you might want to skip out on this one.

Otherwise, if having a centralized app is what you prefer, Pulse MD Pro is definitely worth your money.

POSITIVE

  • All-day monitoring for continuous health tracking throughout the day and into the night.

  • Export sleep report in the app through PDF/CSV file formats.

  • Can work both independently or sync with the mobile app.

  • Adjustable vibrations for abnormal readings.

NEGATIVE

  • Requires daily charging.

  • More expensive than other products in the market.

Overview:

When we first got our hands on the Wellue O2Ring, we were taken with how lightweight, portable and sleek it was. Wearing it automatically started tracking your overnight SpO2, pulse rate and body movement continuously.

The great thing about O2Ring is that it can work independently and the free app isn't required, though it's extremely useful if you want to track your readings. It's very useful to monitor if you're possibly exceeding a safe level (you can set alarms for both low oxygen saturation and high pulse rates).

The full sleep report even includes a possible 5-page report broken down to an expanded timeline. Some of our test participants have actually shared their reports with their doctors, who were a little surprised by the detail of information.

For the functionality and ease it provides, there always has to be a downside. As expected, it's more expensive than the usual oximeter. The use of overnight/all-day tracking also means you'd have to be charging it daily, similar to a cellphone.

  • Comfortable waterproof band.

  • Suitable to use when doing any sport.

NEGATIVE

  • No screen display.

  • Must require the use of an app.

Overview:

For the sports enthusiasts on our team, the Polar Verity Sense was the best sports-oriented oximeter we've tested.

The Verity Sense, when worn on the upper arm as instructed, is really responsive and accurate. Our team member was able to do 30s intervals on a bike, and it will track the HR without delay. Even during a vigorous run with fast arm movement (12km/h or 8 min-mile pace), the tracking doesn't skip a beat. The band is comfortable and does not slip. It doesn't have to be super snug to work. The signal can also be picked up by most gym equipment without the watch.

To recharge the unit, you have to unsnap it from the band, and insert it into a USB type charger that was made just for this Polar unit. The little charging unit is so small, I am afraid I am going to lose it. Other HR's just magnetically snap on while still on the band and charge the unit. We also noted that the battery life is around 20 hours, which is shorter than other sports oximeters out there (the usual being 30-40 hours.)

NEGATIVE

Overview:

Despite coming last on our list, the Innovo is by no means lacking. After narrowing down our top 5 from the 24 oximeters we've tested, our standards were rigorous.

The Innovo iP900AP has a clean, well thought out design with an excellent OLED display. The ability to change the orientation of the display is an absolutely necessary feature, as it accommodates left and right hand dominant individuals, but also allows for rotation for reading the result of another person. No twisting your head around to see the display or getting used to reading results upside down.

It definitely takes longer than the usual no-app oximeter to get your results, but if that doesn't bother you, then you'd love this.

How we ranked:

Accuracy of Readings: Accuracy is the most crucial factor when it comes to oximeters. We focused on models that consistently delivered precise oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate readings. We cross-checked results from each device against professional-grade equipment to ensure reliability. An accurate oximeter can be the difference between peace of mind and potential health concerns.

Ease of Use: For an oximeter to be truly helpful, it should be simple to use, even for those who aren’t tech-savvy. We evaluated each model’s setup, display readability, and button functionality. Devices with a single-button operation, clear instructions, and a quick setup scored higher, as they’re accessible to users of all ages and tech abilities.

Display Quality: A high-quality display makes it easy to read the results, even in low light. We looked for oximeters with bright LED or OLED screens, color-coded indicators, and large, easy-to-read numbers. A quality display enhances usability, especially for elderly users or those with vision issues. The Cosari Pulse Oximeter and Innovo Deluxe have bright LED screens, adjustable brightness with a bidirectional display.

Battery Life: Frequent battery replacements or recharging can be inconvenient, so we assessed the battery life of each oximeter. Models with long-lasting batteries and energy-saving features rated higher, ensuring the device is ready to use whenever needed without frequent interruptions.

Comfort and Design: The oximeter’s design and comfort during use are important, especially for regular monitoring. We preferred models with soft, well-designed clips that fit securely without pinching. Compact, lightweight designs also scored higher, as they’re more convenient to carry and comfortable to wear. The Polar Verity Sense has a comfortable band you can wear on your upper arm during sports.

By carefully evaluating these criteria, we arrived at our final ranking, with the Cosari Pulse Oximeter at the top, followed by the Oxiline Pulse MD Pro, Wellue O2Ring, Polar Verity Sense and Innovo Deluxe i900AP. This ranking reflects a balanced combination of accuracy of readings, ease of use, display quality, battery life, and comfort and design, thus considering the diverse needs of users seeking efficient and reliable oximeters.
